Trip to Thirparappu water falls

Trip to Thirparappu water falls

After a nice time in Padmanabhapuram Palace, we again went to Thirparappu Falls. Thirparappu Falls is located 35 K.M. from Nagercoil, and this falls in the Kothai River. The Kodayar makes it’s descending at Thirparappu and the waterfall at this place is about 16km. from Pechiparai dam. The riverbed is rocky and about 300 feet in length. The water falls from a height of nearly 40 feet and the water flows for about nine months in a year. The whole bed above the falls is one rocky mass, which extends up to a distance of about quarter of a kilometer upstream where the famous Thirparappu weir has been constructed for supplying water to the paddy fields. On either side of the river, on the left bank of the river in between the waterfalls and the weir, there is a temple dedicated to Shiva enclosed by strong fortification. The entry fee is Rs. 2 per head and camera fee is Rs. 5. Just near the falls I found a nice landscape.

That’s the Thirparappu weir. A weir also known as a low head dam is a small overflow-type dam commonly used to raise the level of a river or stream. At the entrance there were nice coconut trees and near the falls there was a beautiful garden.Near the falls there was a unique Elephant playground slide. The District Administration has recently constructed a swimming pool and Childrens Park for children over here, which is very popular among the children.

Then, I took a video of the Thirparappu Falls, After that I took a snap of the top view of the falls and that is the top view of the garden.
